PLAYERS COMPETING FROM DIFFERENT TEES (USGA HANDICAP MANUAL SECTION 3-5)
Different tees usually have different Ratings. Because a USGA Course Rating reflects the probable
score of a scratch golfer, the higher-rated course is more difficult, and the player playing from the
set of tees with the higher USGA Course Rating receives additional stroke(s) equal to the difference
between each USGA Course Rating (rounded up or down). The additional strokes are usually added
to the Course Handicap of the player playing from the higher-rated set of tees. In the SGC Men's
Club it would not be practical to add strokes to everyone playing the white tees, so we deduct the
Course Rating difference from the players playing the yellow tees. Under USGA regulations this
is permissible.
Example:
GFS 2 strokes
White 68.9 less Yellow 66.7 = 2.2
GFN 3 strokes
White 69.0 less Yellow 66.4 = 2.6
DS 2 strokes
White 69.1 less 66.7 = 2.4
CIM 2 strokes
White 69.2 less 67.3 = 1.9
